The Crown Collection of Maps

The Crown Collection is an oft-cited but difficult-to-find compilation of historical maps of the United States. Series I-III contain colonial-period maps in British archives, and Series IV-V contain Archer Hulbert’s tracings of nineteenth-century trails in the American West.

This collection contains materials regarding American author, Margaret Mitchell. Mitchell was lauded for her book “Gone with the Wind,” for which she won a Pulitzer Prize. Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1900 and passed away after a car accident in 1949. Mitchell is now known as a highly controversial figure due to her personal opinions centering around politics and race.
